Laurie Stott?, are you same 'Laurie Stott' that worked at Colgate Palmolive? Father of Gillian Stott who was a 1stFlixton Venture Scout? or is it just a coincidence.

Excellent first "Necker News" - like the apocryphal woman's skirt; long enough to cover the essentials but short enough to be interesting. Good luck with future productions.

Arrangements for Summer camp 2008 are being discussed.
Indoor camps are not that bad, I have pictures from an Explorer camp years ago where we stayed inside, but we still sat round the fire at night.

With all the centenery celebrations, leaders being unavailable due to sickness or work, it has been quite difficult to arrange many camps this year. However, all is soon to change.... hopefully..... Never fear, Middlewood is always near!!!
dougie
11 August 2007 00:00:00
on our next summer camp we should go somewhere like nottingham or north wales and be in tents who agrees it has got to be better than being in rooms with bunk beds because there will be no fire to sit round thats what i say
dougie
11 August 2007 00:00:00
Is there going to be a camp at middlewood soon?

Just want to say a big thank you to all those who supported myself and Grant through our gruelling 83 mile bike ride and too all those who sponsored us. Currently we have had around £900 pledged however this could change due to what people actually give. If you have not donated and wish to do so via the website or please please see myself at our weekly scout meeting.
Thank again Paul and Grant

Just scanned the guestbook. Isn't it GREAT that 1st Flixton reach FIVE SCORE YEARS in a few months time. Didn't recognise any names so guess they came later than me at the old Coach House.
I joined partway thro' the 2nd World war years! Wonderful experience. I look forward to the reunion and hope to meet up with other colleagues.

Thanks for visiting Bill, and yes the hut is being put to very good use.
Ill check out the website and hopefully learn a bit more about the area and the land that 1st Flixton hut is on.
Feel free to visit at any time to see for yourself how the hut has turned out. It will also be good to know how the hut was originally used and how it was when it was built, its history etc....

02 April 2007 00:00:00
Hi Guys, just went onto your webby and found the pictures of the inside of your Scout hut. This hut was originally built by 'Skip' Mills for the benefit of 3rd Flixton Scout Group. As one of the 'old' 3rd Flixton crew, its good to see that you are keeping it nice. It would have been a shame if it had been pulled down and forgotten.
When 3rd Flixton ceased, I was glad that 1st Flixton became the benefactors of the Scout hut. As the oldest Scout group in the District , you deserved a 'proper 'place of your own, rather than the bottom half of the Coach House.
Good look with your group and if you go to the end of the field at the back, you can cross a little stream and you will find where our little football pitch used to be!
There is more information for your little area to be found on www.urmston.net.
Yours in Scouting,
Bill Outhwaite,Group Chairman 3rd Davyhulme Scout Group.

Hey, thanks for a great weekend! I felt the same as Ian before the camp but have now found some new energy to carry on trying make explorers enjoyable and different every week! Thanks for the talk about the Explorers having their own room Chris - it seems to have stuck a chord with all the explorers and ideas are coming from all over the place! I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear that we have got the go ahead to adopt the lancaster room and make it more comfortable.
RE:Challenge flag - apparently there is already one out there????
Plus there is the Jack Beeson challenge trophy being discussed at the SL and ESL leaders meeting on the 13th Nov.

Thanks for a great joint camp last weekend.

I must confess that I had been feeling a little de-motivated recently leading explorers at 3D, and this camp has given me the boost I very much needed. You have all helped to reminded me how much fun explorers can be and I thank you all for re-kindelling my enthusiasm.

If anyone has photo's can you please e-mail them to me for the 3D website! please note my change of e-mail address its "ian.th@ntlworld.com"

Also any chance of a winter camp this year? Scouts and Explorers?
Chris Hansford
07 August 2006 00:00:00
You want a camp without rain, go camping with Norman.... Camp with me it is going to rain... Thats the rule unfortunatly. Camp with both of us there will be days of rain and days of shine...
Flixton Explorers always do a winter camp, usually indoors and joint with 3rd Davyhulme. In the past we have got the older end of the Scout Section to join us to start them mixing with the Explorers and taking part in Explorer activities.... Myself and Ian (ESL 3D) are planning this years winter camp. Watch this space...
Paul (bored at work)
