Group Camp 2006

On the weekend of 14th to 16th July 2006, 1st Flixton held their anual group camp at Middlewood campsite.

The theme for this year was Christmas. What a lovely Christmas everyone had. The weather for the weekend was glorious sunshine and not a cloud in the sky all weekend.

For activities the cubs were put into four teams.

Friday nights supper was toasties cooked on the fire prepared by the Explorer Unit.
The cubs were tought how to make the toasties and cook them.
The Saturday morning was the start of the activities.

Mixed with the Scout Section, the cub teams had a pioneering project.
The task, with the help and pioneering knowledge of the Scouts, was to make the chariot or sedan chair, (Santa's Sleigh), and to race them round a track prepaired by the Explorer Unit.
Each team picked a person to ride the sleigh as the others on the team raced them round the track.
On Saturday afternoon, the cubs were lucky enough to get a visit from Father Christmas, who came bearing gifts for each of the 1st Flixton Cubs.
After all Christmas would not be Christmas if Father Christmas did not visit, even if it was the middle of July.

Once Father Christmas had gone back home, the Beaver Section took part in a snowball fight.
With it being Christmas, all enjoyed tucking into a full Christmas dinner followed by the traditional Queen's speach, (skillfully portrayed by a certain 1st Flixton Scout leader.
After Christmas dinner, the Cubs and Scout sections were taken on a long walk around Middlewood and surrounding areas.

The evenings entertainment was provided by Iain (A.S.L) and Chris (E.S.L), who put on a Christmas disco for all Cubs, Scouts and leaders alike to have a boogie and play party games.
