As son of former Akela (1994-2005), Ellen McCaig and former Senior Scout at 2D, Mike McCaig, Iain's formative years seemed to be mapped out for him.
In 1984, Iain started Scouting at 1st Flixton cub group and then started at the Scout group at 1st Flixton in 1987.
In 1992 Iain joined 3rd Flixton Venture Scout unit, (A fair swap for a tent and dixi).
In 1996 3rd Flixton decided they didn't want Iain anymore, so asked 1st Flixton to take him back. The clauses were that 1st Flixton could keep the tent and dixi and that 3rd Flixton were to give 1st Flixton a Scout Hut. (Yet another fair swap)
Iain completed his leader training in 2001, after being Assistant Scout Leader for 10 years.
Well done Iain.
Slight changes to the truth have been made in Iain's bio. However some bits are true.
Mike Firth started out his scouting life in 1989 at 2nd Irlam Beaver Colony, Eccles District. From here Mike joined Gilwell Cub Pack, also 2nd Irlam. After leaving the Cub pack Mike joined Phoenix, one of the Scout Groups at 2nd Irlam.
At Phoenix, along with Chris E.S.L Flixton, he joined crew at Middlewood Scout Camp.
A time after leaving Phoenix, Mike joined Kaos Venture Scout Unit in Eccles, along with Chris and Andy, both E.S.L's Flixton.
Upon leaving Kaos, in 2000 both Mike and Chris started leadership at 1st Flixton Scout Group, both as A.S.L's.
After a time Mike left 1st Flixton Scout Group to join 3rd Daveyhulme Explorer Unit as A.E.S.L.
Mike still kept in contact with his friends at 1st Flixton by arranging joint meetings and activities along with Chris.
Not long after joining 3rd Daveyhulme, Mike returned to 1st Flixton Scout Group, once again offering his services as A.S.L.
Mike has stayed with 1st Flixton ever since.
Mike and Chris are both qualified NSRA (National Smallbore Rifle Association) tutors.
